The performance of the F-8 is far better than the Pentium line of processors, or earlier AMD processors. Although the F-8 comes with a modest price tag, it is big on performance when compared to computers you may already own and when compared to similar priced computers found elsewhere.

The F-8 is a good model for new traders, operating a Bloomberg Terminal, end-of-day analysis, small portfolio swing trading, Forex trading, Tape Reading, a backup computer, and a number of other purposes. It is not recommended for use with multiple tick charts where complex indicators are applied to the chart.

With the upgrade CPU (3.2GHz), the performance of the F-8 is comparable to the F-11 model. There are a number of measurers of CPU performance and in practice it is not easy to make simple comparisons between AMD and Intel CPUs. The Intel CPUs are better, but the AMD CPUs are very good and are very cost-effective.

AMD CPUs (such as those used in this model) should not be used with eSignal as there are known compatibility issues.

Special Options

Operating System:
Windows XP is the recommended Operating System for desktop computers. Microsoft Vista has known and unresolved problems. We are not responsible for resolving problems with Vista that Microsoft has not resolved. These problems include: 1. Playing movies or receiving streaming video with more than 2 monitors active. 2. Difficulty re-loading Vista from the supplied CDs (It may require removal of some of the memory, and all but one video card and hard drive). 3. Incompatibility with your software. 4. Inability to maintain a VPN connection.

Data Drive:
When a Data Drive (Backup Hard Drive) is ordered, then you will receive an upgrade to the Acronis software that will allow you to schedule regular full-drive backups. These backups can be used to restore your entire hard drive to a replacement hard drive, if necessary. You can also keep several days worth of backups, allowing you to restore your hard drive to an earlier period. Unlike similar programs, the earlier period restoration can be used to scrub viruses from the hard drive (providing that the virus was not present in the earlier period).

Automatic Disk Defragmenting:
The automatic disk defragmentor option will keep your hard drive organized (defragmented) so that charts open faster and the system is generally more responsive. To work correctly, it needs to be configured to defragment outside your normal trading hours or when your screen saver comes on (if you use a screen saver).

Virtual Trading Room headset:
This is a Plantronics headset with high quality earphones and boom microphone. It is most commonly used in Hotcomm or similar voice enabled chat rooms. This headset will help you get into many online education or collaborative trading environments which use voice-based Internet communications technology.

Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware protection:
If this is a pure trading computer then you shouldn't need Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware protection. Otherwise, you should only use the two brands we offer (even if you don't get them from us). Many other brands of security software will pattern-check your incoming data, which will cause the data to arrive intermittently.
